Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses
Host Government: Germany
The Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) is responsible for studying nutritional problems referred by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The committee also drafts provisions on nutritional aspects for all foods and develops guidelines, general principles, and standards for foods for special dietary uses.
Standards for Foods for Special Dietary Uses which have been adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission are located in Volume 4 of the Codex Alimentarius, Foods for Special Dietary Uses.

The next meeting of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (Session 30) will be in South Africa (place to be determined) from November 3-7, 2008.

The Committee will continue work on:
  • Guidelines for Use of Nutrition Claims: Draft Table of Conditions for Nutrient Contents (Part B Containing Provisions on Dietary Fibre)
  • Draft Advisory Lists of Nutrient Compounds for Use in Foods for Special Dietary Uses Intended for Infants and Young Children: Part D Advisory List of Food Additives for Special Nutrient Forms: Provisions on gum arabic (gum acacia)
  • Proposed Draft Recommendations on the Scientific Basis of Health Claims
  • Proposal for New Work to Amend the Codex General Principles for the Addition of Essential Nutrients to Foods (CAC/GL 09-1987)
  • Proposal for New Work to Establish a Standard for Processed Cereal-Based Foods for Underweight Infants and Young Children

New Work:
  • Additional or Revised Nutrient Reference Values (NRVs) for Labelling Purposes; Project document is available in Appendix VII of ALINORM 08/31/26
