2009 PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION UPDATE - 1/15/2009
Thank you for your patience as worked though the ticket distribution process. My office received an overwhelming number of on-line requests for Inauguration tickets.  We received requests for more than 14,000 tickets but were allocated less than 200 tickets.

Because of this we felt the best way to distribute tickets was through a lottery. That lottery is now complete.

Remember, you do not need tickets to attend the Inauguration on January 20th. Below is a list of alternative options should you not receive a ticket

If you do not receive tickets, there will be sections of the National Mall that will be open to the public where tickets are not required. Televisions and speakers will be placed throughout the Mall so everyone can hear and witness the event.

While the Inauguration ceremony is under the auspices of the Congress, Inaugural balls, galas and the Inaugural Day parade are the responsibility of the President-elect and the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) www.pic2009.org

The Inaugural Day parade will be open to the public and tickets are not required for the majority of the route. Tickets are required for certain sections, but all inquiries should be directed to the PIC.

If you are planning to travel down for the Inauguration, we strongly encourage you to use public transportation. Parking will be severely limited and heightened security and road closings will make driving very difficult. Please also keep in mind that the Inauguration has historically been very cold and wet, and you can expect to stand outside for at least 3-4 hours. You may want to bring extra clothing or blankets. To learn more about accessibility at the Inauguration visit inaugural.senate.gov

In case of inclement weather, the Inauguration ceremony will be held inside the Capitol Visitor’s Center in the U.S. Capitol, where only immediate family, the media, members of Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court will be able to attend.

Please note:
January 17th President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden will embark on a  train trip from Philadelphia to DC that will follow in the tradition of past inaugural journeys that included events along the way and paid homage to America’s rich history, beginning in the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the Liberty Bell rung out. One of the stops along the way will be in Baltimore. For updates on the location and time be sure to visit  www.pic2009.org .
