1/14/2009Rep. Watson Backs Bipartisan Bill To Provide Health Care for 11 Million Children - Washington, DC— Rep. Watson today joined a majority in the House of Representatives in support of bipartisan legislation to provide health care to 11 million children in modest-income families. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act was approved by a vote of 289-139. The program, Panwapa, was launched as part of Rep. Watson’s long term commitment to harnessing technology as an educational empowerment tool and to cultivate local youth as responsible global citizens. Panwapa is produced by Sesame Workshop in partnership with the Merrill Lynch Foundation.

U.S. House of Representatives Passes Resolution Acknowledging the Goals and Accomplishments of the Youth Impact Program -
Washington, DC— In the final days of the 110th Congress, the House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution (H. Res. 1413) acknowledging the accomplishments and goals of the Youth Impact Program (YIP). The Youth Impact Program, founded by Riki Ellison, a ten-year veteran of the National Football League and three-time Super Bowl Champion, combines the skills and discipline of football and academics that at-risk minority youth will need to pursue a productive future.
