This addendum is to inform potential applicants that there is a change 
in the section SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETION OF APPLICATIONS IN 
RESPONSE TO THIS RFA for RFA-AI-02-006, which was released May 13, 
2002.  It is located at: 
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-AI-02-006.html

Under BASIC RESEARCH COMPONENTS, the last sentence in the first 
paragraph of this section is changed; "must" is changed to "may" so 
that the sentence reads:  "These basic research projects may utilize 
animal models, but MAY also incorporate basic research in humans.  
There is no requirement that the basic research projects use human 
samples."  The potential impact of the proposed basic research on 
treatment of autoimmune disease in humans should be stated in the 
application. 

The receipt date for the applications has been extended to November 18, 
2002.
