Assessing Your Obesity Risk

Obesity is resultant from multiple factors, so there is no single absolute way to assess your obesity risk correctly. However, there is the federal guidelines to help you assess your obesity risk using three key indexes:

  • Index 1: Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Index 2: Waist Circumference
  • Index 3: Risk Factors for Diseases and Conditions Associated with Obesity.
  • The BMI (Index 1) is a measure of your weight relative to your height. Waist circumference (Index 2) measures abdominal fat. Index I and 2 with risk factors (Index 3) yields your risk for developing obesity-associated diseases.

    Warning for the limits:
    • Overestimation often found in athletes and others with a muscular build.
