About us

WHO

The mission of the WHO Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals is the attainment of “a world in which all people at risk are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases.”

Our work is undertaken with partners across the world.

What we do

The Department’s work covers a range of activities including standard-setting, research and development, vaccine regulation and quality, vaccine supply and immunization financing, and immunization system strengthening. All activities are in line with the immunization goals set out in the WHO/UNICEF Global Immunization Vision and Strategy [pdf 3.49mb] (GIVS).

The role of the Department in contributing to the goals of GIVS is laid out in its Strategic Plan for 2006-2009 [pdf 823kb].

How we are structured

The Director’s Office is in charge of immunization programme policy, planning and coordination. It also carries out communication, advocacy and media relations, in addition to resource mobilization and management of funds. It provides management support to three technical teams:
