DOE & Volvo

Don't know if there's anything much going on here, but it seems like this summer there've been persistent questions about DOE's relationship with Volvo. Maybe the bottom line is U.S. companies want to know why there's so much interest in international ties for fuel-efficient vehicles. Maybe it's something else.

Anyway, an expanded cooperative program with Volvo was announced at Gothenburg, Sweden, in late June by then-Asst. Secretary Andy Karsner. The money from DOE was supposed to be matched by Sweden, with that total matched by Volvo. It was an extension of earlier agreement. (The total value of the cooperation agreement was placed at $48 million.)

Guess we'll watch for test results on efficiency gains and/or other news.
