HHS SECRETARY THOMPSON NAMES REGINA B. SCHOFIELD AS
DIRECTOR OF INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS

HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced today the appointment of Regina B. Schofield as the new director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA). In her new position, Schofield will take the lead in advising the Secretary and HHS officials on state, local and tribal perspectives regarding HHS policies and programs.

Schofield's scope of responsibility includes the department's regional offices and the Secretary's 10 Regional Directors located in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Denver, San Francisco and Seattle.

"Regina Schofield brings a long history of government relations expertise to the intergovernmental affairs office, and we look forward to her leadership," Secretary Thompson said. "She is and will continue to be a valuable part of the HHS family."

In the interim, Schofield will serve as director of IGA and continue serving as director of the HHS Office of the White House Liaison, where she is currently responsible for supervising the department's political personnel operation, including all phases of recruitment, selection, performance management and employee relations. She will function in both roles until a replacement is found for the Liaison office.

Prior to joining HHS, Schofield was the manager of government relations at the United States Postal Service, where she worked on a broad range of legislative and regulatory issues affecting the Postal Service, and implemented strategies involving congressional activity. Previously, Schofield was manager of environmental issues at the International Council of Shopping Centers where she followed the Clean Water Act reauthorization, Endangered Species Act reform, Superfund, property rights, and telecommunications and utility deregulation.

Schofield received her bachelor's in business administration from Mississippi College, and an M.B.A. from Jackson State University.

Her new position is effective immediately.
