HHS SECRETARY TOMMY G. THOMPSON
Regarding the President's Appointment of Charles Grim
as Interim Director of the Indian Health Service


I applaud the President's decision to appoint Charles Grim, D.D.S., as Interim Director of the Indian Health Service. Dr. Grim is a well-recognized leader among American Indians and Alaska Natives who will be a worthy advocate for Indian health programs and improving the health of Indian people.

Dr. Grim, a Rear Admiral and Assistant Surgeon General with the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, began his career with the Indian Health Service in 1983. His professional achievements, administrative experience and personal dedication will serve the Indian Health Service well during this time of change and tremendous opportunity.
