HHS Secretary Names New Regional RepresentativeHHS Secretary Mike Leavitt today announced the appointment of James Whitfield as the Secretary�s Regional Director for Region X. Whitfield will be the Secretary�s direct representative responsible for guidance and coordination of HHS policies in the region, which is based in Seattle and includes Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. �James brings a wealth of experience on health policy issues to this position,� Secretary Leavitt said. �His background in the private and public sector will serve to further the region's many vital health programs and initiatives.� Prior to his appointment, Whitfield served as the senior officer for community relations for the Washington Health Foundation in Seattle, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health of Washington communities. He has run his own small business, served as a technology consultant, and was a licensed life and health insurance analyst and agent with a Seattle financial services firm. He has also served on numerous community boards and been active with a variety of community nonprofit organizations. Whitfield looks forward to focusing on HHS Secretary Leavitt�s initiatives, including implementation of the new Medicare prescription drug coverage and emerging health information technology issues, as well as American Indian and Alaska Native health and human service issues and health disparities. |
