AHCPR Awards Five Grants Targeting Quality-Of-Life, Cost-Effectiveness Issues


The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research today announced funding for five new research projects designed to improve health outcomes, patient satisfaction and overall quality of care.

"Consistent with the Department of Health and Human Services" and Secretary Shalala's commitment to quality of care, these studies will provide important measures to help physicians and other providers assess patients' well-being and imp rove outcomes of care," said AHCPR Administrator John M. Eisenberg, M.D.

AHCPR has awarded a total of $1.19 million for the first year of the projects. The newly funded projects are:

The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research is charged with supporting research that improves the quality of health care, reduces its costs and enhances access to essential services. AHCPR's broad programs of research and technology assessme nt bring practical, science-based information to medical practitioners, consumers and other health care purchasers.
