ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/18/2008) — Subsurface (tile) drainage systems is the topic of the annual Agricultural Drainage Design and Water Management workshop to be held March 11 and 12 at the Holiday Inn and Willmar Conference Center, 2100 Highway 12 East, Willmar.
The workshop will focus on planning, design, conservation, safety and legal issues of agricultural drainage water management. University of Minnesota Extension is sponsoring the workshop in partnership with Iowa State University Extension and industry partners.
The agricultural drainage workshop is intended for producers, tiling contractors, landowners, industry, agency and conservation staff, crop consultants, and land and water resource managers. The annual workshop features informative presentations by Extension specialists and experienced practioners, with problem solving examples and lots of discussion time. An exhibit hall featuring drainage business and industry displays will also be available onsite.
The first day’s agenda is designed to improve participants’ understanding of good soil water management. Topics include alternative land use and conservation options for poorly drained acres, drainage planning, design, and legal concepts and issues. The day culminates with a presentation on important considerations for do-it-yourself tiling.
During the second day, participants will receive hands-on drainage layout and design experience involving a “conservation drainage” approach, and will learn more about important safety considerations in drainage work. The second day culminates with a tour of the Prinsco Inc. facility in Prinsburg, Minn.
Pre-registration is required by Feb. 25, and the two-day registration fee is $160 (single-day registration is also available). For more information and online registration, visit http://www.DrainageOutlet.umn.edu.
