ST. PAUL, Minn. (5/8/2008) — University of Minnesota Extension announced today a coordinated set of web resources to help pork producers with tough financial questions.
The site can be accessed at www.extension.umn.edu/Swine, click on “Pork Producer Resources for Difficult Financial Times.”
The web-based guide connects producers to researched-based information on production, economics, business management and legal questions to consider. The site also provides resources for managing family-related issues and personal stress.
The pork industry is currently experiencing a combination of high feed costs and below-cost hog prices that is stretching pork producer resources and making for very difficult times.
Minnesota ranks third nationally in pork production, a significant part of the local economy in many rural areas.
Producers who do not have access to the Internet may call Extension’s toll free Farm Information Line (800-232-9077) with questions. The phone line is staffed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Questions at other times of the day and on weekends can be left on voice mail and will be returned during staffed hours.
NOTE: News releases were current as of the date of issue. If you have a question on older releases, use the news release search (upper left-hand column of the News main page) or the main Extension search (upper right of this page) to locate more recent information.
