About the Bibliography

The BCN Bibliography, published in all issues of the Biological Conservation Newsletter, includes over 29,000 references to literature on conservation biology (from 1983 to the present). These references have been obtained from a weekly review of the new journals and books received by the Smithsonian Institution's Natural History libraries, from a monthly scan of Current Contents, and from suggestions submitted by subscribers to the newsletter.

To look for a particular article, select Title, Author, or Keywords from the drop-down list and enter a keyword or phrase.

Searching by Title, Author, and Keywords:

To search by author, enter the author's last name in the search box. It is not necessary to include the first name or initial. Remember that authors may be persons (including co-authors, editors, compilers, etc.), or names of organizations, agencies, conferences, etc. (for example, "iucn"). This a wildcard search so a search for 'Peters' will return names like 'Peterson', and a search for 'water" will return keywords like 'freshwater'.

Use the AND/OR Boolean operators to help refine your search. If you are searching on more than one word, using AND will return records matching all the words in the phrase. For example, "endangered" and "plants" would return only those records with both "endangered" and "plants" in their title.

Searching for the same two words using OR would return records matching either words in the phrase, so you would get back all titles with "endangered" and all titles with "plants", and any titles with both words.
