NRCS, the Chisago Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently partnered with two landowners who wanted to restore a large wetland encompassing approximately 30 acres of their adjoining property.

Bare Soil is Bad! Protect It, Cover It, Or Lose It
(from The Kaseiehlie Press) Brie Darr, currently stationed in the FSM and Scott Crockett stationed in Saipan have multiple missions but on the day that we spoke their message was united along one line, “Bare Soil is Bad! Protect it, cover it, or lose it.”  They are both employees of NRCS.


Vermont

Nationally Significant Abenaki Nation Archeological Resource Protected
NRCS and the Vermont Land Trust have announced that after eight years of work focused on burial site preservation, including critical archeological and geological analyses, an important Abenaki Nation archeological resource and cemetery has been protected with a perpetual easement.

Kansas Farmer Named 2008 West Region Conservation Legacy Winner
The Kansas Soybean Association and the American Soybean Association announced that Kevin Compton, Compton Farms, Hiawatha, Kansas, has been named 2008 West Region Conservation Legacy Winner. “Kevin has an excellent conservation ethic, which is evident as you view his farming operation. He has addressed conservation issues such as gully erosion, along with water quality through both management and structural conservation practices,” said NRCS district conservationist Matt Sprick.
