Three SNOw TELemetry (SNOTEL) sites were installed in the summer of 2007 by Alaska's Snow Survey staff.  The first was Sugarloaf Mountain near Valdez above the Solomon Gulch hydro-electric project.

California NRCS soil conservationist and State Air Quality Coordinator John T. Beyer was recently presented with a USDA Secretary’s Annual Honor Award for Individual Achievement.  Under the category of Protecting and Enhancing the Nation’s Natural Resource Base and Environment, John was recognized for successfully pioneering agricultural air quality conservation measures in California that yieded technical and policy models for USDA conservationists nationwide.

The theme for USDA’s 84th Agricultural Outlook Forum is “Energizing Rural America in the Global Marketplace” to be held February 21-22, 2008, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. USDA holds the forum to provide timely forecasts of farm prospects and insight into developments affecting the farm economy.  Speakers include top government officials, industry analysts, farmers, business leaders, and other experts in agriculture-related fields. The public is invited to attend the event where last year more than 1,800 participated. Program details are available on the forum’s website.

features a weekly historical photo and caption.  NHQ, districts, States, RC&D councils, and all other NRCS entities are invited to submit a historical photo of activities or individuals who have worked or are working for the agency along with a caption.
