Small
Scale Farmer Tour a Huge Success

Ward
Burton Wildlife Foundation and Falkland Farms recently partnered with NRCS;
Virginia Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service; Department
of Forestry; and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to host the first
Small Landowner Forestry and Wildlife Field Tour.
Utah
May Endure Flooding
With Utah's snowpack nearly 120 percent of normal, one might think the State is
in good shape for water this year. Unfortunately, some localities may find
themselves with too much of a good thing. So far, no flooding is forecast.
But if rain and snow continue another five days or so, prolonging the runoff and
adding to the snowpack accumulation, the stage could be set for floods in a few
areas of northern Utah.
Endangered and Threatened Plant Species Identified
at WRP Site
A
two-year study of plant life at the
New Jersey Conservation Foundation’s 9,400-acre Franklin Parker Preserve has
identified
30 rare, endangered, and threatened species, or about 6.5 percent of the
observed species. NRCS provided $5.4 million in financial assistance last year
for the largest Wetlands
Reserve Program (WRP) project in the Northeast.

New
SARE Bulletin Highlights Water Conservation Strategies
Long-term droughts in the Southwest, increasing water scarcity in the semi-arid
Plains, and seasonal precipitation shortages throughout the South and Northeast
are shining a spotlight on the need for conservation-oriented approaches to
agricultural water use.
