Results: As of the 2003 review, this Partnership has implemented many positive changes. The Park's safety committee composition has changed to include more employee representatives. Generic programs and policies have been reviewed and rewritten with employee input. The Park has purchased a comprehensive data base that will allow the safety office to fully inventory and digitally catalog all permit-required confined spaces. Injury and illness cases have been reduced, and near misses continue to be reported to evaluate safety compliance. Additionally, the Park has contracted with GSA to develop a comprehensive emergency action plan.

National Park Service (NPS) - Golden Gate National Recreational Area
#147

Date Signed: March 12, 1999
Date Concluded: April 30, 2005
Contact Information: OSHA Region IX Office, San Francisco, (415) 975-4310
or Regional Partnership Coordinator

Results: The Golden Gate National Recreational Area (GGNRA) uses a computer-based Safety Management Information System (SMIS) to track injuries and illnesses. SMIS incident rates have decreased over the last four years, from 19.15 in 1999 to 5.45 in 2003. The decline in incident rates can be attributed to hiring a full time safety and health specialist, increasing communications about safety and safety programs, changing work practices, participating in behavior based safety training and investigating accidents more thoroughly.
