Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health

FACOSH was established by Executive Order 11612 on July 26, 1971, to advise the Secretary of Labor on matters relating to the occupational safety and health of federal employees. The Council currently operates under Executive Order 12196, 1-5.
FACOSH is a source for federal agency safety and health programs and policies. The work of the Advisory Council uses the expertise of its members, and the costs and salaries for FACOSH members are entirely born by the participating federal agencies. This is an extremely cost-effective use of government-wide in-house talent to plan, develop, and organize new federal safety and health programs and initiatives.
FACOSH's objective is to reduce and keep to a minimum the number and severity of injuries and illnesses in the Federal Government.
MEMBERSHIP
Chairperson: Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health.
Vice Chairperson: Curtis M. Bowling, Assistant Deputy Under Secretary, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense Installations and Environment, U.S. Department of Defense.
The 16 members, composed of eight union and eight management representatives, participate in developing and recommending to the Secretary of Labor new safety and health programs and initiatives for the federal sector.

MISSION
Provide assistance to the Secretary of Labor and OSHA, and leadership to federal agencies, in an effort to reduce the number of worker injuries and illnesses in the Federal Government.
Advise the Secretary of Labor on appropriate policies and initiatives to enhance occupational safety and health in the federal sector, and actively endorse these policies and initiatives.
MEETINGS
FACOSH meets regularly to discuss federal safety and health issues that affect the federal sector. Each meeting is announced in the Federal Register at least 15 days before the meeting date. The date of the next scheduled meeting will be posted on this OSHA website (link to meeting information). The meetings are usually held in the Department of Labor's Frances Perkins Building, 200 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.
