About the Peer Review Process

The Service elicited comments from independent scientific reviewers.  Formal peer review was solicited on an early draft of the revised recovery plan by one individual with significant expertise in whooping crane biology, ecology, and reintroduction techniques.  The draft plan was submitted for public review in January 2005 (70 FR 1902).  Formal scientific review of the draft final plan was solicited and obtained by 4 additional individuals with expertise in crane biology, behavior, captive management, and reintroduction in January 2006.
