SARE Youth Project
The purpose of this program is simple: to help 9th - 12th grade Missouri youth learn about sustainable agriculture! By conducting a hands-on project of their own creation, students will develop/enhance their understanding of sustainable agriculture and its importance to modern agriculture.
Overview
Students may apply today for a grant (up to $250) to fund a project related to sustainable agriculture. The application is simple, and participating in this program will help develop your knowledge of agriculture and strengthen your resume.
What is sustainable agriculture?
Sustainable agriculture is challenging yourself to take your favorite part of agriculture, plant or animal, and explore how to make that area more productive (in the short-term and long-term), profitable, and environmentally sound.
Sample projects include:
- Rotationally graze your show animals
- Grow a specialty crop (ex: sunflowers)
- Do a case study on a sustainable farmer near you or using native plants to encourage wildlife on the farm
