Interested in the Defensive Driving Course?  Seating is limited to 40 people, and pre-registration is required for the six-hour Defensive Driving (Point & Insurance Reduction) course. Organized by the ESH&Q Directorate, sponsored by USA Training Inc. and delivered by EAS Associates, the course is open to BNL, BSA and DOE employees, facility-users, and their families. National Safety Month Webinars - As part of National Safety Month, the Safety & Health Services Division is hosting a series of web-based seminars ("webinars") throughout the month of June focusing on the leading causes - and prevention - of unintentional injuries and deaths.
Safe Lifting / Back Safety - Make it a habit to follow the basic steps of lifting and moving - even when the object is relatively light.  Click on the link and read about ways you can protect your back from injury when lifting and moving.
How Dangerous is Chemistry? - Special Report on the death of a French professor in a laboratory explosion.  The incident was a shocking reminder that research can be a risky business.

Bicycle Safety - Bike injuries are common: According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every year about 800 Americans die because of bicycle-related injuries. Think it won't happen to you? The odds for danger are high: More than half a million Americans end up in hospital emergency departments because of bicycle-related injuries. Ergonomics  - What is it? Ergonomics is the application of scientific information concerning humans to the design of objects, systems and environment for human use.  Ergonomics is about the fit between people, their work activities, sports and leisure, equipment, work systems, and environment to ensure that workplaces and everyday life are safe, comfortable, efficient, and that productivity is not compromised.

Practice Safety In All You Do - BNL DART (Days Away, Restricted, Transferred) and DOE Recordable Performance Goals for FY07.  How is a case determined to be a DART and when is a case Recordable?  How can you help the Lab achieve it's goal?  Practice safety, maintaining attention to detail, don't multitask.  BNL's goal is to have no more than 6 DART cases and no more than 16 Recordable cases for FY07.
