Navy Vice Adm. William Gortney, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, will provide an operational commander’s update, which will include an overview of the Combined Task Force-151 and counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden region, at 2 p.m. EST, Jan. 15, in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E973. Journalists without a Pentagon building pass will be picked up at the River Entrance only. Plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the event; have proof of affiliation and two forms of photo identification. Please call (703) 697-5131 for escort into the building.
The Senate Armed Services Committee will conduct a confirmation hearing on the expected nominations by President-Elect Barack Obama at 9:30 a.m. EST in room SD-106, Dirksen Senate Office Building of William J. Lynn III to be Deputy Secretary of Defense, Robert F. Hale to be Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) and Chief Financial Officer, Michèle Flournoy to be Under Secretary of Defense for Policy; and Jeh Charles Johnson to be General Counsel. All of these individuals will be present.
