About two-thirds of adults in America are overweight or obese. It’s alarming, especially when you consider the health consequences.

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

In addition to putting you at increased risk for heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, being overweight or obese may increase your risk for developing:

  • Colon cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Cancer of the esophagus
  • Uterine cancer
  • And if you’re a postmenopausal woman – breast cancer.
So there’s a good reason to stay at a healthy weight. By avoiding weight gain, you can reduce your risk for these cancers and other serious complications.

For tips on how to control your weight, visit our website at NIDDK or majic1023.comExit Disclaimer. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers. Join me next week for more “Healthy Moments.”
