Message from OER concerning the Program Announcements that were terminated by NIDDK
In November, NIDDK published the following Notice to terminate numerous FOAs:
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-DK-06-020.html
Accordingly, the Expiration Date in the NIH Guide was changed to 11/15/2006. However, the NIH Guide Office just discovered that Closing Dates of related Grants.gov application packages were not changed to reflect the new expiration date, thus they remained open for submission. Yesterday, when the Closing Dates of related application packages was changed, Grants.gov automatically sent out an informational email to applicants who previously downloaded those packages and registered their email addresses:
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-DK-06-020.html
These emails simply informed registered users of a change for those FOAs (i.e. a new Closing Date of 2/16/2007). The Parent R21 (PA-06-181) and R03 (PA-06-180) FOAs, as well as any related submissions, were not affected by these actions and they remain open until 5/2/2009:
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-06-181.html
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PA-06-180.html
These Parent FOAs use the new R21/R03 submission date schedule of 2/16 for New and 3/16 for Renewals, Resubmissions and Revisions:
http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/funding/submissionschedule.htm
Thus, investigators should be advised to use the Parent announcements, as planned, with these submission dates. However, it is possible that some investigators may submit applications in response to FOAs that were listed in the NIDDK termination Notice, since the Closing Date for application packages were not processed until yesterday, with a Closing Date of 2/16/2007.
