General Caney Ranger District Information

     The Caney Ranger District is divided into three land areas called "Units". These Units are named the Caney Lakes Unit, the Middle Fork Unit, and the Corney Lake Unit. The Caney Ranger District Office is located on Highway 79 just south of Homer, Louisiana.

The Caney Lakes Unit

     Visitors to the Caney Ranger District's Caney Lakes Unit can enjoy a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The Caney Lakes Unit 's Recreation Opportunities map will show general directions and locations of the recreation areas in the Unit. For more complete directions and information, go to that locations page. Below is a complete listing with links to all areas within the Caney Lakes Unit of the Caney Ranger District.

Camping Opportunities Include: The Beaver Dam Campground on Upper Caney Lake and the Turtle Slide Campground on Lower Caney Lake in the Caney Lakes Recreation Complex.

Trail Opportunities Include: The Sugar Cane National Recreation Trail inside the Caney Lakes Recreation Complex.

Day and Group-Use Opportunities Include: The Caney Lakes Day-Use Area, the Caney Lakes Ski Beach Area, and the Caney Lakes Group-Use Area which are all located on Lower Caney Lake.

Boating Opportunities Include: The Upper Caney Lake Boat Launch Area, the Lower Caney Lake Boat Launch Area, and the South Shore Caney Lake Boat Launch Area.

Caney Lakes Unit Area Fees: A listing of all Unit area fees with instructions on the proper use of pay envelopes at the pay stations.

The Middle Fork Unit

     Visitors to the Caney Ranger District's Middle Fork Unit can enjoy beautiful forest lands and seasonal hunting opportunities with the availability of two separate Hunter Camps, the Bucktail Hunter Camp and the Turkey Trot Hunter Camp. The Middle Fork Unit's Recreation Opportunities map will show general directions and locations of the Hunter Camps in the Unit. Camping Opportunities Include: The Bucktail Hunter Camp and the Turkey Trot Hunter Camp

Middle Fork Unit Area Fees: There are NO fee areas within the Middle Fork Unit of the Caney Ranger District.

The Corney Lake Unit

     Visitors to the Caney Ranger District's Corney Lake Unit can enjoy beautiful forest lands and seasonal hunting opportunities with the availability of the Corney Lake Recreation Complex and a separate hunter camp. The Corney Unit's Recreation Opportunities map will show general directions and locations of the Hunter Camp and the Recreation Complex in the Unit. Camping Opportunities Include: The Corney Lake North Shore Camp, the Corney Lake South Shore Campground, the Corney Lake Overflow Camp, and the Sugar Creek Hunter Camp.

Day and Group-Use Opportunities Include: The Corney Lake Day-Use Area and the Corney Lake Group-Use Area.

Boating Opportunities Include: The Corney Lake South Shore Boat Launch, the Corney Lake North Shore Boat Launch, and the Bayou Boat Launch.

Corney Lake Unit Area Fees: There are NO fee areas within the Corney Lake Unit of the Caney Ranger District.
