Kisatchie National Forest

The Calcasieu Ranger District is divided into two land areas called "Units". These Units are named the Evangeline Unit and the Vernon Unit. The Calcasieu Ranger District Office is located on Highway 28 West, two miles east of Gardner and ten miles west of Alexandria, Louisiana.

The Evangeline Unit

Visitors to the Calcasieu Ranger District's Evangeline Unit can enjoy a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The Evangeline Unit 's Recreation Opportunities map will show general directions and locations of the recreation areas in the Unit. Evangeline Camping Opportunities Include: Three Campgrounds at Kincaid Lake, two campgrounds at Valentine Lake, the Claiborne Trails Camp, the Evangeline Camp, the Amus Melder Camp and the Boy Scout Camp.

Evangeline Trail Opportunities Include: The Wild Azalea National Recreation Trail, the Claiborne Trails, the Kincaid Lake Trails, the Valentine Lake Trail, the Lamotte Creek Trail, and the Indian Ridge Trail.

Evangeline Day and Group-Use Opportunities Include: The Kincaid Lake Day-Use Area, the Kincaid Lake Group-Use Area, the Valentine Lake Day-Use Areas, and Valentine Lake Group-Use Area.

Evangeline Boating Opportunities Include: The Kincaid Lake East Boat Ramp(All boats), the Kincaid Lake West Boat Ramp(All boats), and Valentine Lake(Kayak and Canoes).

Other Evangeline Area Opportunities include: The Bayou Beouf Research Natural Area and Castor Creek Scenic Area.

Vernon Camping Opportunities Include: Campground at Fullerton Lake,the Enduro Trailhead Camp, and Hunter's Camp.

Vernon Trail Opportunities Include: The Enduro Trails, the Whiskey Chitto Recreation Trail, the Big Branch Trail, the Ol' Sarge Interpretive Trail, the Turkey Pen Trail, and Fullerton Mill Trail.

Vernon Day and Group-Use Opportunities Include: The Fullerton Lake Day-Use and Group-Use Areas, the Little Cypress Day-Use and Group-Use Areas, the Blue Hole Day-Use and Group-Use Areas, and Government Pond Recreation Area.

Vernon Boating Opportunities Include: The Fullerton Lake(Kayak and Canoes), the Little Cypress Pond (Kayak and Canoes), and Blue Hole(Kayak and Canoes).

Other Vernon Area Opportunities: The Cooter's Bog Special Interest Area, the Drake's Creek Special Interest Area, the Whiskey Chitto Special Interest Area, the Blue Hole Wildlife Viewing Structure, and the Longleaf Scenic Area.
