General Recreational Activities

Animated people pitching a tentForest Camping: There are many camping facilities throughout the Forest. From primitive camping in tents, to full hookup camping in your motorhome or travel trailer. Check the District your interested in to find out what they have to offer.

Day-Use and Group-Use Areas: Some day and group-use areas include fishing areas, swimming areas, access to hiking and biking areas, and include picnicking and barbeques. Check the District your interested in to find out what they have to offer.

An animated fisherman holding up his catchFishing and Hunting: Fishing and Hunting on the Kisatchie National Forest is in a setting with some of Louisiana's most beautiful landscapes. The regulations for Louisiana Hunting and Fishing are applied on the Forest, although there are added regulations in some areas. Check with the District Office that you plan on recreating at before your trip.

Hiking, Biking and Horseback Riding: There are numerous trails throughout the Forest that are marked as multi-use trails. Distances vary from 1/2 mile to nearly 30 miles. Most traverse across rolling hill terrain with many scenic areas scattered throughout. Check with the District pages in this website for more detailed information and maps of all the available trails. The streams and tributaries are not drinkable so bring plenty of water. Know your surroundings and check the weather before your trip.

Off-Highway Vehicle Trails: The Calcasieu Ranger District, the Kisatchie Ranger District and the Catahoula Ranger District have Off-Highway Vehicle Trails. The Kisatchie Ranger District's Sandstone Trail is seasonally closed from January 1st through April 30th of each year for renovations and repairs. All trails have the chance of closure due to excessive rain and will be posted as such on this websites front page OHV chart as soon as possible. Check with the District Office before your trip.

Bird watching, Sightseeing, Scenic Drives, Overlooks, Wilderness Areas and Scenic Rivers: From the Iatt Lake Observation Pier to the Kisatchie District Overlooks, there are too many areas of interest to list here. Pick the District you wish to travel in and check that District's pages for ideas listed in the "Other Areas" section. Past that, just choose an area and start your adventure.
