Another Son of Micronesia Falls In Iraq
Washington, D.C. (June 27, 2007) — Army soldier Jose Charfauros Jr., 33, of Rota, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, became the region's latest Iraq war casualty. Charfauros is the first Rota resident to die in the ongoing Iraq war, the sixth overall from the CNMI and the 25th casualty from the Micronesia region since 2001. Charfauros was previously a police officer on Rota before he decided to join the Army and serve his island and country. Governor Felix Camacho yesterday joined the Charfauros family in mourning. "The lieutenant governor, first lady Joann, second lady Jennifer and I extend our deepest condolences to the Charfauros family on the loss of their son, husband and father," the governor said. "Jose, who is from the island of Rota, died in defense of our great nation and we all must remember that he paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms that we all enjoy today." The Office of Insular Affairs remembers and honors the brave soldiers who offer up the ultimate sacrifice in the War on Terror. |
