Grosvenor Meteorite

The Grosvenor Mountain iron meteorite (officially named GRO 85201, type IIIAB) is a beautiful example of flight orientation. Rather than tumbling during its atmospheric entry, as most meteorites do, it maintained a stable orientation, producing a dome-shaped leading side and trails formed when molten metal streamed away from it during atmospheric melting. This 1198 gram specimen is 9 cm high and was collected in Antarctica in 1985.
