Tips on Selling

I wrote this in 1999 for the English farmers and food producers I invited to the farmers' markets I opened in London - the city's first. Many of them had never sold at retail. These notes, which I've updated for Americans, are simply my suggestions on how to sell more local and traditional foods, ideas generally won the hard way - by selling at farm stands and farmers' markets since I was nine years old. We were pretty hopeless in the old days - food on the ground, signs bleeding in the rain - but now our stand always looks nice. You can learn from our sometimes slow progress!
