About The U.S.T.P. - U.S. Trustee Program

 

The United States Trustee Program is the component of the Department of Justice responsible for overseeing the administration of bankruptcy cases and private trustees under 28 U.S.C. § 586 and 11 U.S.C. § 101, et seq.

It consists of an Executive Office for U.S. Trustees (EOUST) in Washington, DC; 21 regional U.S. Trustees; and 95 field offices.

This site contains information about the United States Trustee Program and the federal bankruptcy system.

The Executive Office for United States Trustees has issued for public comment a proposed rule setting forth procedures and criteria United States Trustees shall use when considering applicants seeking to become approved providers of a personal financial management instructional course. Comments are due by January 13, 2009.

Final Rule Issued

October 7, 2008
The Executive Office for U.S. Trustees has issued a Final Rule requiring uniform forms for final reports by trustees in cases under chapters 7, 12, and 13 of title 11. The Rule becomes effective April 1, 2009.

Updated Census Bureau Data

September 8, 2008
The Census Bureau's Median Family Income Data accessible through the Means Testing Information page has been updated. The U.S. Trustee Program will apply the updated data to cases filed on or after October 1, 2008.
