About the President's Family Justice Center Initiative

In October of 2003, President George W. Bush announced the President's Family Justice Center Initiative (PFJCI), which is administered by the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). The PFJCI is a pilot program that has awarded more than $20 million to 15 communities across the country for the planning, development, and establishment of comprehensive domestic violence victim service and support centers. The goal of the PFJCI is to make a victim's search for help and justice more efficient and effective by bringing professionals who provide an array of services together under one roof. The 15 PFJCI sites bring together advocates from non-profit groups, victim services organizations, law enforcement officers, probation officers, governmental victim assistants, forensic medical professionals, attorneys, chaplains, and representatives from community-based organizations into one centralized location. OVW, the Attorney General, and the Administration support this most critical initiative and continue to work toward the goal of eradicating violence against women.

OVW Director Addresses the 8th Annual International Conference on Family Justice Centers April 22 - 24, 2008 in San Diego, CA.

Director Cindy Dyer and OVW staff participated in the 8th Annual International Family Justice Center Conference from April 22 - 24, 2008 in San Diego, CA. Director Dyer provided opening remarks and delivered a plenary session presentation highlighting the role of OVW in implementing the Violence Against Women Act and discussing the challenges for family violence prosecutors in prosecuting domestic violence cases. Hosted by the National Family Justice Center Alliance, the conference featured many of the leading domestic violence experts in the field today.

OVW sponsored a Family Justice Center Symposium during the conference to provide multidisciplinary teams an opportunity to attend specialized sessions for those assessing community readiness, for those beginning to plan a Family Justice Center, and for those interested in taking a closer look at the emerging issues that operating Centers are currently facing.

With nearly 500 people in attendance, the conference provided an interactive forum for victim advocates, prosecutors, civil legal attorneys, law enforcement, community corrections officers, social workers, faith leaders, government officials and others from around the world to come together and explore the Family Justice service delivery model: providing victim-centered, multidisciplinary wrap-around services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking.
