Information for Individuals with Limited English Proficiency

On August 11, 2000, the President signed Executive Order 13166, "Improving Access to Services for Persons with Limited English Proficiency."  The Executive Order requires Federal agencies to examine the services they provide, identify any need for services to those with limited English proficiency (LEP), and develop and implement a system to provide those services so LEP persons can have meaningful access to them.   The United States Trustee Program (USTP) fully supports this initiative and has taken a number of steps to enhance services for LEP individuals.  We invite you to review the USTP’s Language Assistance Plan and this Web page for further information.

Executive Order 13166:  Improving Access to Services for Persons with LEP

The Coordination and Review Section (CRS) of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division has a Web page dedicated to Executive Order 13166.  On that page, you can view the Executive Order, find answers to commonly asked questions relating to the Order, and link to a Federal Interagency Web site which offers information, tools, and technical assistance regarding LEP and language access.
