LOUIS MONDAY WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Joe Brann, the police chief recently selected by President Clinton to lead the Administration's effort to put more police on the streets, will be in St. Louis on Monday, January 30, for the Midwest Conference on Community Policing and Problem Solving. The Conference is a gathering of more than 200 law enforcement officials and community leaders from cities and counties of all sizes throughout the Midwest. The community policing program is currently the subject of legislative proposals by some Members of Congress who wish to roll back the initiative, despite the law enforcement community's strong support for its passage last year. Brann's address to the Conference, which will lay out a justification for the program, will be open for media coverage and he will hold a brief press availability following his speech. Before being selected by Clinton to be the nation's "Top Cop," Brann served as Chief of Police in Hayward, California for 5 years where he implemented a nationally-respected community policing program.
