ATTORNEY GENERAL ASHCROFT APPLAUDS PRESIDENT BUSH'S NOMINATIONS

FOR THE UNITED STATES PAROLE COMMISSION


WASHINGTON, D.C. Attorney General John Ashcroft today welcomed President George W. Bush's announcement of four individuals to serve on the United States Parole Commission: Gilbert G. Gallegos of New Mexico, Henry Hart III of Pennsylvania, Cranston Mitchell of Missouri and Marie Fajardo Ragghianti of Tennessee. President Bush last month designated Edward Reilly, Jr., as Chairman of the Commission.

"I am pleased Edward Reilly will be joined by such an outstanding group of individuals," Ashcroft said. "I thank them for their willingness to serve, and I look forward to working with each of them."

Gilbert Gallegos is currently the National President of the Fraternal Order of Police and was previously a member of the Commission for Advancement of Federal Law Enforcement. He also served as Deputy Chief of Police for the Albuquerque, NM, Police Department. He received his BS from the University of Albuquerque.

Henry Hart is currently the Deputy Inspector General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He served previously as Chief Counsel for Pennsylvania Criminal Justice Policy and Programs and in the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. He received his BA from Amherst College and his JD from Boston University.

Cranston Mitchell is currently a Corrections Program Specialist for the National Institute of Corrections. He served previously as Chairman of the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole, as Regional Supervisor for Jobs for Missouri graduates, as Supervisor of Rehabilitation Facilities for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and as an officer with the St. Louis Police Department. He received his BA from the University of St. Louis.

Marie Ragghianti is currently a criminal justice consultant. She served previously as Vice Chairman of the United States Parole Commission and Chairman of the National Appeals Board, as Chief of Staff at the United States Parole Commission and as Chairman of the Tennessee Board of Pardons and Paroles. She received a BS and an MS from Vanderbilt University and an MPA from Harvard University.
