CHERTOFF ANNOUNCES NEW LEADERSHIP IN THE

DEPARTMENT'S CRIMINAL DIVISION


WASHINGTON, D.C. Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division Michael Chertoff today announced several changes in the management of the Criminal Division. Chertoff met personally with each of the individuals who has been reassigned, and the changes were announced to the Criminal Division today. The changes will become effective in August.

"New leadership brings with it fresh ideas and an invigorated sense of purpose," said Chertoff. "This management team has the experience and vision to lead the Criminal Division as it faces a variety of challenges, from the growth of new technologies to the expanding globalization of crime. I thank all of the supervisors in the Criminal Division for their hard work, service and commitment on behalf of the Justice Department and the Criminal Division."

The changes announced today include:

  • John Harris, Chief of the Office of International Affairs, is promoted to the position of Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division for International Policy. In that position, Mr. Harris will lead the Division's efforts in the area of international corruption and will play a critical role in the Division's many and varied treaty negotiations.

  • Molly Warlow, Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General, will become Chief of the Office of International Affairs.

  • John Roth, Chief of the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Section (NDDS), will become the Chief of the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section. Carole Wilkinson, Deputy Chief of NDDS, will serve as Acting Chief of NDDS. An announcement for a permanent Section Chief will be posted in the near future.

  • Terry Lord, Chief of the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), will serve on detail assignment as Resident Legal Advisor in Bucharest, Romania, for the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training Section. Tom Burrows, Deputy Chief of CEOS, will serve as Acting Chief of CEOS. An announcement for a permanent Section Chief will be posted in the near future.

  • Maureen Killion, Deputy Chief of the Office of Enforcement Operations, will become Chief of the Section. The Criminal Division has recommended that Fred Hess, the current Chief of the Office of Enforcement Operations, be appointed as a member of the Board of Immigration Appeals.

  • The Criminal Division has also recommended that Roger Pauley, Chief for Legislation in the Office of Policy and Legislation, be appointed as a member of the Board of Immigration Appeals. Jonathan Wroblewski, currently Acting Chief for Policy, will serve as Acting Section Chief.

  • Lee Radek, Chief of the Public Integrity Section, will become Senior Counsel in the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section. Andrew Lourie, a career prosecutor and currently the Chief of the Major Prosecution Section in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida has agreed to serve as Acting Section Chief. Noel Hillman, a career prosecutor and currently a Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, will become a Deputy Chief of the Section.

  • Joe Gangloff, Deputy Chief of the Public Integrity Section, will become Senior Counsel in the Office of International Affairs and will be responsible for international corruption matters.
