WELCOME TO REGION 6
Youth Conservation Corps Program

Welcome to the Region 6 Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) web site.  The information and forms provided here will help field stations and enrollees to better understand the program.

This summer employment program, established by Public Law 93-408, is for young men and women 15 through 18 years of age.  The program is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, U.S. Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, and National Park Service.

Work projects last approximately eight weeks and enrollees work a 40-hour week.  Projects may include trail building, improving wildlife habitat, posting boundary signs, invasive plant control, bird banding, simple construction, office work and general maintenance activities as needed.

Applicants are selected through a random process.  No prior experience is required to apply.  Enrollees must have parental or guardian consent to enroll in the program.  Applications must be completed by April 15th each year.

Region 6 requires all YCC enrollees to complete the mandatory computer courses in the following areas within one week of reporting to duty:

  • 2008 Federal Information Systems Security Awareness
  • Privacy Act
  • 2008 Records Management Awareness
  • Whistle blowing (No Fear)

The purpose of the YCC program is to:

  • Accomplish needed conservation work on public lands.
  • Provide meaningful employment for 15 through 18 year old males and females of all social, economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds.
  • To give participating youth an understanding and appreciation of the natural environment and resources our great nation has to offer.
