OIA PRESS RELEASEFOR FURTHER INFORMATION American Samoa Receives Grant from Office of Insular Affairs for Audits, Financial Statements(WASHINGTON, D.C., May 4, 2005) The American Samoa Government will receive $208,000 from the Department of the Interior's Office of Insular Affairs to hire consultants to assist in completing the territory's financial statements and audits for the past two fiscal years. "The grant will help the ASG catch up with its financial statements and required audits," said Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior David B. Cohen. "This is crucial to American Samoa's efforts to make progress on fiscal reform, as required by the Memorandum of Agreement that the late Governor Tauese signed with Interior in 2002." The grant comes from the Office of Insular Affairs Technical Assistance Program, which generally helps the insular areas address critical needs for which funding is not otherwise available. |
