Measurement Issues from the Top-Down
In this section METRIC provided a summary of an entire construct, along with a list of
the most frequently cited instruments that have been used in measuring that construct.
Each overview includes a brief description of the construct, information about its relevancy
in VA research, its unique measurement issues, the list of most-cited instruments that have
been reported in the literature, and references.
Each instrument on the most-cited list is linked to brief summaries that provide its
developmental history, purpose, useful facts, and a reference list for that instrument.
When available, links to METRIC Instrument
Reviews, or other relevant materials, have been provided.
How This Information Was Obtained
METRIC researched the scientific literature and reference texts in order to summarize
constructs and instruments. In addition, they sought the advice of experts in each of
the fields that were covered in the Construct Menu for additional insight into how it is
measured. Citation frequency data is found using the ISI Web of Science Citation Search,
which returns the number of times a specific article (in this case, the developmental
article for an instrument) has been cited by others. Each of these construct overviews
and instrument summaries are given a date stamp (at the bottom of the page), providing
a temporal reference.
