Wisconsin District Conservationist in Iraq

NRCS Waukesha, Wisconsin, district conservationist John White is currently on
a one-year tour in Iraq as a major with the U.S. Army Reserve Multi-Functional
Support Command. The Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois-based unit was activated in
February 2005 in support of the Army Material Command (AMC) where John is
currently assigned as the Support Operations Officer for the AMC Army Field Support
Brigade at Camp Anaconda, Iraq. John has been
involved with the Add-on-Armor and Reset programs.
The Add-on-Armor program is responsible for improving troop safety by having installed armor on more than 9,000 tactical vehicles.
Through the Reset program, John and his staff work with redeploying units
throughout Iraq to facilitate the early identification and repair of equipment
requiring national-level maintenance.
John says that although his mission has been very challenging, he also finds it very
rewarding to be supporting U.S. troops, other Coalition forces, and the Iraqi Army. He
is however, looking forward to taking a few weeks off when he returns home to spend
some time
with his wife Valerie and their two young daughters.
Between active duty, National Guard, and the Army Reserve, John has a total of
20 years military service.
