The concept behind the self-guided Civil Rights in Education Heritage driving
trail is to highlight historical sites in Virginia that symbolize the
achievement of educational equality. The 41 markers in more than a dozen rural
counties signify events which led to educational equality for women, African
Americans, and American Indians.
