The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announces a 2-day workshop on Organ Smooth Muscle:  Development, Physiology, and Pathology.  The workshop will be held at the NIH Neuroscience Building in Rockville, Maryland, on March 24 - 25, 2009.  It will address current research on the biology of smooth muscle in organs and organ systems, as well as needs for future research on smooth muscle.  The workshop will bring together investigators working on a variety of systems to stimulate discussion, particularly with respect to research that may form a basis for future therapies to address organ dysfunction related to altered smooth muscle biology.

Organizers:

George Christ, Wake Forest University Medical School
Gianrico Farrugia, Mayo Clinic, Rochester
Ravinder Mittal, University of California at San Diego
