Career Opportunities in the Department of Veterans Affairs

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is the second largest of 15 Cabinet-level departments and operates nationwide programs of health care, benefits and cemetery services for veterans and their families. VA accomplishes its mission through the following major components:

Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is one of the largest health care systems in the United States and employs over 14,500 physicians and 50,000 registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and practical nurses, who are dedicated to providing top quality health care to veterans and eligible family members.

Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) ensures that veterans and their dependents receive accurate and timely benefits. VBA employs approximately 6,000 claims examiners, 650 counselors and 500 loan specialists.

National Cemetery Administration (NCA) employs more than 1,400 employees committed to maintaining VA cemeteries as national shrines and provides veterans with a final resting place, which honors their service and sacrifice to our nation.

VA Staff Offices provide essential mission support through a variety of occupations ranging from administrative (budget analyst, contract specialist, investigator, etc.) to professional (accountant, attorney, engineer, etc.).
