In addition to FSIS Form 9060-5, Meat and Poultry Export Certificate of Wholesomeness,
many countries require other health certificates when importing meat and poultry products to the
United States.
Some of these health certificates reference specific directives and or criteria of the
importing country, i.e., European Council directives or the World Organization for
Animal Health/Office of International Epizootics (OIE) criteria.
While FSIS import inspection personnel may not know the full content of these directives, the
Office of International Affairs (OIA) spends a great deal of time researching and/or
discussing the directives with the importing country. Therefore, when additional health
certificates are issued, they contain only valid certification statements. If the content
of the importing country's directive is revised, the FSIS is notified. If the agency is no
longer able to validate the certification statement, then the health certificate is amended
or withdrawn and the country requirements are revised to reflect the change.
Visit FSIS' Web site to learn more about export requirements.
Employees with questions may also contact OIA officials at (202) 720-3473).
