The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) was among 32 partners recognized by Coastal America for  restoring stream habitat in Yokum Brook, a tributary to the Westfield River located in Becket, MA.  Service offices that spearheaded the effort include the Connecticut River Coordinator's Office and New England Field Office.

Two dams were removed over a six year period restoring stream access for Atlantic salmon, brook trout and other native aquatic species.

The project benefits included resolution of safety concerns for the town and educational opportunities for the local elementary school.

This environmental partnership and the project outcome were unique and very successful which is why recognition was given and why this can be an example for similar projects in the future throughout the country.
