Volunteers Clean Up Roads around Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge
Northeast Region, April 12, 2008
Print Friendly Version

Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge held its annual Litter Pick-Up in celebration of Earth Day on April 12, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thirty volunteers, from kids to seniors, individuals and families, regular and new volunteers, as well as a community service group from Hyatt Regency helped with the effort. By noon time, the large number of volunteers cleaned the entire 4-mile stretch of Key Wallace Drive, a one-half mile stretch of Egypt Road, the Rt. 335 canoe launch, and the area around Visitor Center. Volunteers who stayed later in the day picked up trash along 3 miles of marshland on Shorters Wharf Road. In total, over 60 bags of garbage were gathered from the roadsides. Refreshments for the volunteers were provided by the Friends of Blackwater.
