Northeast Region, April 22, 2008
Print Friendly Version
On March 29th and 30th, the annual Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs (HOFNOD) event was held at Elkins High School in Randolph County, West Virginia. HOFNOD is designed to encourage kids to get out side and go fishing and to say no to drugs.  A booth showcasing Law Enforcement in the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) was staffed by Officer Brett C. Hartwig along with three volunteers.  The volunteers that helped were Marilyn Shoenfeld and Connie Hochgesang with the Friends of the 500th and Beth Hartwig wife of LEO Hartwig.  An estimated 2500 adults and children attended event.  Over 800 people visited the Service booth, asking questions pertaining to the Service and/or the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge.  The booth had a robotic deer and turkey which are used to catch poachers along with other tools that a Law Enforcement officer might use to perform his or hers duties.
