On October 13, 2007 Sarah Bauer and Eric Leis of the La Crosse Fish Health Center and Dave Wedan of the La Crosse National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office traveled to the Genoa Lock and Dam. 

Walleye and sauger were electro-fished from Pool 9.  Since the sampling occurred at night, the fish were placed on ice and were taken back to the LFHC for fish health screening the following day. 

The fish were tested for bacteria and viruses.  The fish are being tested as a possible source for Genoa NFH broodstock.  Currently the results of the assays are still pending.
