Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges returned to Kenai Refuge in 2007 for their annual meeting and related events.

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge hosted the annual meeting of the Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges on September 15-17 at their headquarters in Soldotna.  Friday activities included a guided hike at the Refuge and a group dinner; Saturday included a strategic planning session with a public presentation in the evening.  The session finished up Sunday afternoon after group reports and the Friends annual business meeting.  Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges formed in 2005 as an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the conservation of the natural resources of all 16 Alaska National Wildlife Refuges.  Their 134 members represent areas throughout the state and members traveled from places such as Kodiak, Anchorage, Fairbanks,Cold Bay, Tok, Kotzebue, Homer, Kotlik, and Unalaska to attend.  The group has been active in outreach and education events and has tackled special projects such as removing invasive plants on and near refuges.  For more information about Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges call (907) 226-2135 or vist their Web site at www.alaskarefugefriends.org.
